A gentleman was watching me knit one day, and said he’d done some knitting after he’d been injured (in WW2). He showed me the scar where he’d had his arm damaged, and we chatted a bit. I asked if he still had what he’d knit, and if he still knit. He blushed, and said, “It looked like cat crap, so I buried it when I was on leave.” He then told me he didn’t knit any more, he said something about wool abuse. It was quite a fun conversation!
My grandpa said that when he was in school they taught them to knit blankets for the men fighting.
My father is the person who taught me to knit, crochet, sew and weave.
This series has been so inspirational! I think perhaps when my boys are older, I might teach them how to knit. Maybe I’ll even work with my husband on his sewing skills.
My father in law, who is a computer engineer for Reuters, is a master knitter, crocheter and weaver. It’s amazing.
This totally made me laugh out loud.
Also, a friend told me about this – http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer05/FEATtopten.html
Lawrence Fishburne and Brad Pitt also knit. So did FDR, and Charles Dickens.
I just wanted to say that I don’t think Russell Crowe actually knits, I think that was just a goof off picture set.

This one says he learned it for anger management, but who knows how true any of that is?
Jacques Plante was a Montreal Canadiens goaltender in the 50s and 60s. He is also the first NHL goaltender to regularly wear a facemask during regulation play. This from Wikipedia:
“His mother taught him how to knit his own tuques to protect him from the cold. Plante continued knitting and embroidering throughout his life and wore his hand-knitted tuques while playing and practicing until entering the National Hockey League (NHL).”
